Monterrey, Nuevo León. – Today, the North American Development Bank (NADB) launched a climate change webinar for water utility personnel in the metropolitan area of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. The 40-hour webinar, “Turn Down the Heat: Why a 4°C Warmer World Must be Avoided” was offered in a group session by NADB through the massive open online course (MOOC) platform of the Word Bank.
Over a period of five weeks, participants will learn about an analysis of the negative impacts resulting from a likely 4°C warming of the planet, the connection between increased concentrations of greenhouse gases and to what extent these changes can be attributed to human activity, and options and initiatives that must be implemented as soon as possible to reverse this situation, among other topics.
The seminar is being attended by 19 participants, including personnel from various water utilities in the metropolitan area of Monterrey and Senator Silvia Guadalupe Garza, who chairs the Mexican Senate’s Special Commission on Climate Change.
This webinar is part of NADB’s efforts to offer training on environmental issues and institutional strengthening to a larger number of personnel from utilities, public agencies and the private sector in the U.S.-Mexico border region, where the Bank operates.
“This virtual modality for seminars will help increase the scope of participants trained by NADB,” stated NADB Managing Director Gerónimo Gutiérrez. “With this on-line system, we can take advantage of and promote existing training tools at a low cost for our clients.”
