Tecate, Baja California – A seminar on managing water resources under climate change conditions for water utilities and municipal public service departments began yesterday in Tecate, Baja California. The three-day seminar is being presented by the North American Development Bank (NADB) in coordination with the Latin American and Caribbean water center, Centro del Agua para América Latina y el Caribe (CDA), of the Monterrey Technological Institute (ITESM).
Tecate Mayor César Moreno González de Castilla and Patricia Ramírez, director of the local water utility, Comisión Estatal de Servicios Públicos de Tecate (CESPTe), inaugurated the seminar, which is being attended by approximately 35 representatives from CESPTe and the city’s municipal planning and development institute, Instituto de Planeación y Desarrollo Municipal de Tecate.
The purpose of the seminar is to provide participants with a basic foundation for understanding climate change concepts, methodologies, results and experiences, and in particular its impact on water resources.
The seminar consists of a total of 24 hours of training and is divided into four modules covering such topics as the fundamentals of climate change, global hydrology and the analysis of extreme events, climate change and its impact on water resources and adapting to climate change.
