Pre‐Project Conditions
Additional wastewater (WW) flows collected from undeveloped areas of the city of Playas de Rosarito required the expansion of the Rosarito I wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). Residents from these areas, disposed their WW into streams and the Pacific Ocean and had the potential to affect aquatic life in the coastal regions. Wastewater discharge pollutants reaching the Pacific Ocean occasionally move north through marine currents into the United States Project is referred to as the Rosarito‐3 project
Objective
The purpose of the Project was to eliminate exposure to untreated wastewater discharges by expanding the Rosarito I WWTP capacity, and reduce groundwater pollution and the risk of waterborne diseases.
Scope
The project expanded the capacity of the Rosarito I WWTP in Playas de Rosarito from 1.4 MGD to 2.8 MGD and upgraded the plant to produce effluent that complies with the Mexican standard for recycled water for non‐potable use.
