Background
The Project will increase installed capacity of renewable energy resources, which will reduce the proportionate demand on traditional fossil fuel-based energy production and contribute to the displacement of greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants from power generation by fossil fuels.
Description
The project consists of the design, construction and operation of a 125.05 MW solar park, located in the municipality of Hermosillo, Sonora (the “Project”). The electricity generated by the Project and Clean Energy Certificates (CELs) will be purchased by the Mexican Federal Electricity Comission, Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) pursuant to a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) executed with the special purpose company created to carry out the Project.
Benefits
The estimated environmental outcomes resulting from the installation of new renewable energy generation with 125.05 MW capacity at the point of interconnection are:
a) Generation of approximately 353.5 gigawatts-hour (GWh) of electricity during the first year of operation; and
b) An expected displacement of approximately 163,808 metric tons/year of carbon dioxide, 0.707 metric tons/year of sulfur dioxide and 571 metric tons/year of nitrogen oxides.
