Background
The city of Raymondville currently operates a water treatment plant built over 60 years ago, with an original treatment capacity of 0.75 million gallons per day (mgd). Over the years, the city has expanded the plant to a current capacity of 2.5 mgd.
The plant is at 95 percent of its capacity of 2.5 mgd during non-peak periods; however demand during peak periods has exceeded 2.8 mgd, creating a serious risk for potential contamination of the water supply. Thus, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has cited the city for operating its water treatment plant above capacity at
times and issued an enforcement order requiring the city to replace the plant.
Description
Replacement of the water treatment plant includes the following
components:
- Construction of a 4.5 mgd water treatment plant.
- Demolition of the existing plant.
- Construction of a high service pump station.
- Construction of a 500,000 gallon ground storage tank.
- Construction of a new 16” water transmission line to tie into the
existing distribution system.
