Background
LVWD owns and operates the water distribution and wastewater collection systems in the district, which includes the city of Socorro. The District has inter-local agreements with El Paso Water (EPW) to purchase bulk drinking water, and the wastewater collected by LVWD is conveyed to the Roberto Bustamante Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) owned and operated by EPW. In December 2020, LVWD had approximately 90% coverage for drinking water service and 75% coverage for wastewater collection services.
Description
The project consists of installing yard-line connections to the new sewer system for up to 278 homes, as well as the decommissioning of all on-site septic systems.
Benefits
The project will provide access to first-time wastewater collection and treatment services to the Rosa Azul subdivision, thus eliminating the environmental and health hazards associated with the inadequate disposal of wastewater and providing a cleaner and healthier environment for local residents. Specifically, an estimated 100,000 gallons per day of wastewater will be collected and treated.
