Background
When the project was certified, the wastewater collection service coverage was 15%. The wastewater system needed to be expanded. The existing wastewater collection system had several discharges to an irrigation drain. The layout of the collection system had to be modified in order to collect and convey the wastewater to a single point for treatment. Wastewater treatment was not available.
Description
The purpose of the Project was to to eliminate exposure to untreated wastewater by rehabilitating and expanding the wastewater collection system and the construction of a wastewater treatment plant, contributing to the reduction of water pollution and the risk of water‐borne diseases.
Benefits
The project consists of the construction of a comprehensive wastewater collection and treatment system for the community of El Porvenir, Municipality of Praxedis G. Guerrero, Chihuahua. It includes the rehabilitation and expansion of the wastewater collection system and the construction of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The WWTP consists of an oxidation lagoon system with a treatment capacity of 0.35 MGD.
