Background
Guadalupe, D.B. had 49% wastewater collection coverage. Residents who were not connected to the wastewater collection system disposed of their wastewater in latrines and cesspools, with the associated public health and groundwater contamination risks. The existing facilities had exceeded their life cycle. Large amounts of trash and dirt got into sewers and clog up the lines.
Description
Eliminate exposure to untreated wastewater by expanding the wastewater collection and treatment systems to un‐ served areas, contributing to the reduction of groundwater pollution and the risk of water‐borne diseases.
Benefits
The project consisted of the expansion and rehabilitation of the wastewater collection system and the construction of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The WWTP includes an oxidation lagoon system, and it serves the community of Guadalupe, located within the municipality of Guadalupe, D.B, Chihuahua.
