Background
CESPM operates the water and wastewater systems for Mexicali, Mexicali Valley and San Felipe, Baja California. The Mexicali wastewater system currently serves 294,421 connections with coverage reaching approximately 95.5% of households in the city. The utility has two wastewater treatment plants with a combined maximum capacity of more than 2,164 liters per second (lps) or nearly 50 million gallons per day (mgd).
Description
The proposed project will replace 11,760 meters (about 38,583 ft) of deteriorated pipeline in the wastewater collection system and rehabilitate Lift Stations No. 2, 4 and 5, which currently convey an average of about 1,450 lps (33.1 mgd) within the project area.
Objective
The project will provide adequate infrastructure to collect the wastewater flows and safely convey them to the existing treatment plants. The rehabilitated infrastructure will improve system reliability by reducing the risk of pipeline failures that can cause sewage overflows onto local streets and into the New River, which flows northward into the United States.
