Background
Currently, 80 percent of the population of Allende receives water service, while only 20 percent have sewage service. In Morelos, 91 percent of the residents receive water service while 48 percent have sewage service. Both communities currently discharge their wastewater in open pits without any treatment, contaminating the aquifer, other bodies of water, and the local water supply.
Description
Grupo Solar plans to construct a paper recycling plant to produce 200 tons of recycled cardboard per day, as well as a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 100 liters per second (l/s) or 2.3 million gallons per day (mgd). Because of the large amount of water used in the recycling process, the project includes treating wastewater and exchanging it for
irrigation water from agricultural drains. The treated wastewater will be derived from the treatment of the recycling plant’s wastewater combined with 100 percent of the treated wastewater from Allende and Morelos.
